Chinese Seek US Business

Reprinted from Fairplay - June 1, 2000

A Delegation from China State Shipbuilding Corp. traveled to Miami last week to drum up business with South Florida ship owners. The Chinese delegates met Tropical Shipping directors, some of whom are heading to China in June to oversee the construction of two container ships to be built at Shanghai Edward Shipyard.

S Danoff USA, Miami's premier ship broker, introduced the Chinese delegation to representatives from Bernuth Lines, Seaboard Marine, Interocean Lines and Marsh Harbour Shipping.

"I've been watching the development of the Chinese shipbuilding community for 20 years now, and I invited people who I thought would be potential customers of Chinese yards," company chairman Stuart Danoff told Fairplay.

In light of the US House of Representatives' approval of permanent normal trade relation, Chinese shipbuilders say they are looking forward to winning more business from the US market.
